How to add a Printer. (Win 10, Win 11 & RDS connections)

This article explains how to add a printer to your computer as well as how to add a printer for RDS connections such as Transport suite.

1. Are you using Windows 10 or 11?


Here's how to tell what version of Windows you are using.
Start menu.
If you are running windows 10 you will have a start menu like this. (Left-click the windows icon)



If you are running Windows 11 you will have a start menu like this.



Winver
In your windows search bar type 'winver' and select the first option, a window will pop up displaying your current version.





2. Add a printer for Windows 10

1. open windows and go to settings (Cog icon)



2. in settings open 'devices' and then 'Printers & scanners'



3. click 'add a printer or scanner', allow it to search and then choose "the printer that I want isn't listed"



4. check the box 'select a shared printer by name' and in the text box search \\printers\
You should then see a list of the printers and you can find the one you want to add.




3. Add a printer for Windows 11

1. Open start menu and open settings



2. in settings go to 'Bluetooth & devices' and then 'Printers & scanners'



3. Select 'add device', after it searches choose 'add manually'



4. check the box 'select a shared printer by name' and in the text box search \\printers\
You should then see a list of the printers and you can find the one you want to add.


4. Add a printer for RDS connections (Transport Suite)

1. Search for 'Printer settings (Work Resources)' and log in with you standard credentials.


2. Select add a printer, check 'Select a shared printer by name', type '\\printers\' in the search box.
You will be able to find the printer you need here.



3. you can also set as your default by right-clicking the printer you want and choosing 'set as default' (It will take a few seconds to load)
